Sea level facts and fun

Describe the difference between a pleasant dream and a nightmare, close aren't they. Well think about this for a few moments, if the ocean levels were to rise above the present levels how would your town or state do. Well as luck would have it, we live in Florida but on a ridge that's way above sea level. Checking further I discovered that some of my friends and relatives should consider coming to Florida when they are forced to leave their homes. See the list of sea levels below.

Feet above sea level

Prescott Valley, Az 5026 ft
Sedona, Az 4350 ft
Atlanta 1000 ft +
Hudson, Mi 920 ft
Rome, Ga 614 ft
St. Louis, Mo 600 ft +
Columbia, Md 400 ft +
Austin, Tx 290 ft
Winter Haven, Fl 170 ft (Us)

Dexter the cat

I thought our cat Kurt was treated nicely until I saw this picture of my brothers cat Dexter. He has a vest that was knitted by Phil Ponvert. Nice job Phil, Dexter you look really nice and snuggy. I doubt that Kurt would like it enough to put it on let alone model it for us. Thanks Bob & Suzy for sharing.

Father's Day

Some fathers are luckier than others, I'm a lucky one. My wonderful children gave me two new hats, a t-shirt and a desk calendar. Leah joined us for the gift giving via the phone, that was nice. Erin baked a German chocolate cake which was very tasty. My lovely wife had my "old" truck detailed so it's now bright and sparkling inside and out plus a new "Go Blue" front plate. Boy am I lucky. I sure hope all of the rest of you fathers enjoyed your day too. Happy Father's day everyone.

100 in the shade

Check this out, it's 3pm here in Florida, the temp gage is NOT in the sun and is at 100 degrees. At least it's humid and not that pesky old "dry" heat like my brother gets in Arizona. Some of us are really lucky.

Book cases

The trip to IKEA in Tampa is beginning to pay off. Four of the 6 guest room book cases are together and in position. We must still add the doors (one is leaning) to the wider cases and build the rest of the bookcases. By the way, doesn't Linda's paint job look great. Blue is so soothing and restful. I'm sure our future guests will appreciate this room when it's completed.

Dr. Dele and Terry

We were delighted that Dr. Dele and Terry came to Disney and invited us to visit their condo. We had a delightful time and enjoyed the pizza very much. Thanks

Here we have Rachael, Lee, Dr. Dele, Terry and Linda in the living room waiting for the pizza to be delivered. They were on the 14th floor and you could see the Epcot fireworks from the balcony, pretty sight and not very many other tourists crowding around.

At Disney the next day with Lee, Linda and Erin.

Dele, Terry, Junior and in the stroller is Issac and Rachael.

It was a hot and humid day at the park. They drank lots of water and some wore hats for a little more protection. Fun time by all.

We hope they come back soon.

Winter Park Florida

We went to Winter Park (just north of Orlando) with Lee and Erin Saturday. It's "old" Florida, very lovely. Brick streets, a wonderful park (over 4 blocks long), lots of upscale shopping and a train station. It was about 90 degrees and sunny so we avoided to much exposure and drank lots of water.

Shopping on Park St., it's very upscale and has a very nice park and a train station across the street. Linda, Erin and Lee enjoying the great weather.

The park had some great old moss covered trees. This squirrel found something on the ground, scampered up the tree and enjoy his treat.

A north bound Amtrak train stopped at the Winter Park station to drop off and pick up some passengers.

This fountain in the park has a lady playing a harp. If you look carefully the strings are streams (drops) of water.

Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day. Erin,Lee, Linda & Asa visited Siesta Key which is located on the Gulf of Mexico just south of Tampa. The annual sand sculpture was held today and we saw many worthy efforts.

The swimmer takes a bite out of the shark.

Another sea creature

I'll post the rest on our Kodak site soon. Happy Mothers Day

Moving to Florida

The truck was pretty full for the move, me too!

Linda loved this sign, me not so much.

Linda was just happy she could drive the SUV and not the truck. She had company, Kurt the cat and a can of Pringles.

It was a lovely trip with many stops and lots of leg stretching. The kitty seems pretty happy with the trip so far but he's kinda confined to our two bedroom and bath suite. He's turning into a rubby cat but still doesn't desire much petting. Kind of a one way street with Kurt.

When we buy a house and get settled we'll post more pictures and send out our new address. Give us a month to complete the deal and begin the settling process. We might even invite some folks to come visit, will you be one of the selected few?

Relay For Life

Linda and some other Floyd Medical nurses, namely Melissa and Terri, held a garage/yard sale Saturday and raised over $300 for Womens Breast Cancer Research. The weather was great and the crowds outstanding. Some folks didn't purchase anything but gave donations anyway. We thank everyone who attended, gave of their time and donated sale items. Nice job everyone.

Sold

This is the sign we've been waiting for. Signed, sealed and sold with the money in our account.

Now it's onto Florida and finding the "right" house for us. We have two in our sights , let's see if we can close either one. More posts when that happens.

We officially leave Georgia on April 24th and Linda starts her new job at Winter Haven Hospital on May 11th. More on that later too!

A Mickey sign

It's a sign from Orlando/Disney/Erin & Lee. This Mickey Mouse image was beside Kurt's food bowl this morning. I don't know if he arranged it or it was just a work of the sign fairy. We'll never know for sure, maybe I'll ask Kurt when he gets up from his nappy.

Florida House Hunting

Our first keeper, we've tendered an offer on this bank owned property. It needs some TLC to make it our home, let's see if the bank agrees.

The second keeper is move in ready. We'd take this off the banks hands in a New York minute, we're hoping they say yes.

House hunting is very serious work and you need to maintain your energy level at the highest possible level. We took a break or two and consumed some items in the high energy food groups.

We'll post more as we learn more.

Under Contract

Well it's almost a done deal folks. We have a contract on the house and around April 10th we'll sign the sale papers. We'll move to Florida around April 24th, bye Georgia. We'll miss it some but it'll be nice to live closer to Erin & Lee. We're going to visit some hospitals and houses during a coming trip to Florida. Will post the results in the future. The guy in the picture is our realtor Earl Robinson.

Pending

It's looking a lot like the house will be sold and we'll move in late April. Let's hope the finalization of the deal goes without a hitch so the closing can happen as planned. We'll keep posting on this so everyone who cares is kept informed.
